Get HeadVoice

HeadVoice runs on your own computer, so the camera picture never leaves it. Setup is one download and one double-click.

HeadVoice for Windows

Windows 10 or 11, any webcam, an internet connection for the first start.

Download (zip)

Install in three steps

  1. 1

    Unzip

Right-click the downloaded file and choose Extract All. Put the folder somewhere easy to find, such as Documents.

  2. 2

    Double-click "Start HeadVoice"

The first start downloads what HeadVoice needs (a few minutes). If Windows asks whether to run it, choose More info, then Run anyway.

  3. 3

Follow the setup in your browser

HeadVoice opens in your browser at localhost:8765. The two-minute setup checks the camera and lets you practice.

Good to know

Which camera works?

Any webcam that shows your face clearly. Good, even light on your face helps the most. If you have several cameras, setup lets you pick one; phone-as-webcam apps work while the phone is streaming.

Does it need the internet?

Only for the first start. After that HeadVoice works offline with its built-in messages, and adjusts itself on your computer as you tire. The cloud adaptation agent and cloud calibration are used in research installs only.

Who can use it?

People who can move their head a little and blink, and want a simple way to say everyday things. A helper can set it up. HeadVoice is a research prototype, not a medical device, and should not be relied on for emergencies.

Is my video stored or sent anywhere?

No. The camera picture is processed on your computer and never stored. The only exception is optional cloud calibration, which you choose explicitly: a 25-second clip is uploaded encrypted, used once and deleted. See Privacy.
